Click Compile and ViaDVD creates VOBs, merges Menu and Still content, and creates the VOBs VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS directories ready for premastering. It will even record to a wide variety of DVD-R and DVD+R recorders.
Of special note is ViaDVD's ability to do Exclusive Chapters. Most authoring systems let you designate chapter marks within a video VOB stream. Playback starts at that chapter, then plays clear through to the end of the stream. ViaDVD lets you enter the VOB at the chapter mark, then branch somewhere else (back to your menu) at the end of the chapter. We used to think that all DVD authoring systems could do this, but apparently not.

Yes, it's hard to believe that most DVD authoring systems still make you enter time code numbers for Chapter Marks. ViaDVD Chapter Mark Editor lets you play your VOB (even VOBs made by other DVD authoring systems and DVD authoring software) to mark your chapters. Or it will create chapter marks automatically at scene changes! This aspect alone makes ViaDVD one of the most effective DVD authoring tools available.
The Chapter Mark Video Editor isn't really a video editor in the usual sense, but it acts like one. Some examples...
- Record a TV show, run it through CMEdit and mark the commercials for omission when the disc is played back.
- Assign diferent sequences: Play chapters 3, 1, 6, 34, 29, 4 in that order.
- Use the Chapter Marked VOB in any other authoring system including Apple DVD Studio Pro.
- Copy VOBs from an existing disc to your hard drive, Mark new Chapters, and re-record to a new disc without using an authoring system.
It's not quite a Kitchen Magician®, but it's darn close!

ForDVD is general purpose DVD premastering tool for all DVD specified formats including; DVD-Video, DVD-ROM, DVD-Audio, DVD 5, 9, 10 and 18. Includes the ISO 9660, Micro UDF and Microsoft Joliet file systems. Long file name support, up to 110 characters. Large files in DVD-ROM zone, up to 4G bytes in size. Creates DVD disc image files to hard disk or DLT. Output files are replication plant(DDP) and DVD-R compatible. ForDVD is NOT an authoring system. It creates a Disc Image from your Video_TS and Audio_TS directories, and creates the DDP file necessary for commercial disc replication and/or output to DLT (Digital Linear Tape).
