One button makes all decks record, another makes them play, etc. Position one deck, Step Forward a frame, Step Back a frame, find your favorite frame, press the "Sync" button and they all go to the same frame number. Then play them all together.

Medical Video Simulation
BCD has developed a Medical Simulation Video Recording System for USUHS using six Pioneer PRV-LX1 recorders, a VC-16a Interactive DVD Controller which operates six BCD SB-100 Controllers.
|
Each SB-100 controls an LX1 via RS-422 serial (Sony) protocol. The Pioneer PRV-LX1 is an amazing machine equipped not only with a 100Gb Hard Drive but also Two DVD-R Recorders! Additionally, because it is a closet Linux computer disguised as a DVD Recorder, the LX1 accepts a mouse and keyboard and permits full DVD Authoring! But all USUHS needed was reliable high-quality recording, playback and DVD recording... on six machines at the same time.
Buttons ----» VC-16a «----» SB-100 «----» PRV-LX1
The VC-16a detects the pushbuttons and operates the six SB-100 controllers, which in turn, control the individual decks. Currently, the Pioneer RS-422 command set is limited, so we had to find another way to add the commands requested by the client. For special commands, the VC-16a switches to IR mode to send the commands unavailable via RS-422.
Auto HDD Format
When recording to the built-in hard drive (HDD), the LX1 will play back only the first segment that was recorded. For this application, the client will archive only a few of the sessions to DVD-R, so the HDD needs to be reformatted (erased) frequently. You can do this from the front panel or the IR remote, but it takes 17 keypresses. Multiply that by six decks and that's 102 button pushes. (Standing far away with the hand-held remote is problematic, requiring good aim to hit all machines at once.) BCD created a special button combination (STOP+PLAY+PAUSE) which automagically goes through the format procedure on all six decks simultaneously!
This is a work in progress. We'll let you know when it's done. (... and USUHS said they'll send photos/video of the final installation.)
